Supporting Struggling Students

In higher education professors need to get to know their students. Integrating technology in the classroom is the new normalcy. Covid19 has made it hard for some students to learn online. Higher education institutions need to adopt technology platforms that can assist a struggling student through the course. For example, providing a lecture video for them to watch afterwards just in case they did not understand it the first time. More importantly, allowing more time for a student to learn a certain technology website. For example in a math class a student may need to learn how to use demos.com or calculator.net. I just believe that supporting a struggling student using technology can benefit a lot of our students today. In other words just knowing which technology to use such as maybe google translate for students who can not speak much English but the teacher who only speaks English can use the google translate to communicate with that student. Another example could be a student who does not want to speak up in whole class discussion, but can write out their thoughts so using something like padlet would work. Hence, knowing your students will help you choose the correct technology supporting tool for them. Please feel free to comment below with your thoughts. Thanks for reading.

  1. Agreed! Technology has it challenges, but also can be utilized in a fashion that assist struggling students in a mass amount within the codependency of the actual teacher. For example, the teacher can record the lesson using Google Castify extension, assign it as homework to flip the classroom, use it for struggling students, or even for those who might have been absent. However, students must be taught first on how to properly access, utilize, and submit digital coursework.
